Afghanistan: Attack on TV channel van kills 2

An improvised explosive device targeting a private TV channel van killed two people in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul on Sunday.

According to Nusrat Rahimi, Interior Ministry spokesman, the van was blown up by a magnetic IED attached to it, killing the driver and a passerby and injuring three people, including two staffers of the private station.

There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

Two months ago, the Taliban warned all media outlets to avoid airing or publishing “propaganda” against their fighters.

According to Reporters Without Borders’ World Press Freedom Index, the situation of media in Afghanistan has “worsened.” Three journalists have been killed in Afghanistan so far this year.
