Clashes erupt in Yemen despite ceasefire

Clashes erupted between government forces and Houthi rebels in Yemen’s coastal city of Al-Hudaydah despite a UN-brokered ceasefire, according to a military source

Artillery and machine-gun exchanges rocked the southern part of Hodeidah in Tuesday morning, when Houthi rebels attacked government forces.

Government forces retaliated with heavy and medium weapons, it said.

No information was yet available about casualties.

The Houthi-held port city, which is a lifeline for the delivery of desperately needed humanitarian aid, was for months the main front line in the Yemeni conflict after government forces supported by Saudi Arabia and its allies launched an offensive to capture it in June.
