New York state legislators, Sindh health department discusses to increase number of nurses with better professional training

KARACHI: New York State legislators and the Sindh department of health have agreed to increase the number of nurses on an annual basis with better training.

New York State Assembly Deputy Speaker Phil Ramos and the delegation led by American Pakistani Public Affairs Committee met Sindh health minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho at her office in Sindh Secretariat.

On this occasion, APPAC health committee chairman Dr. Pervez Iqbal and board member Athar Tirmizi said that after the covid-19 epidemic there was shortage of not only doctors but also nurses in America.

They said that Pakistan has the best opportunity to send its trained nurses to America. They said that they have established a relationship between the relevant departments and fulfilled their responsibility.

The meeting also consulted to provide professional training to the nurses as per international standards and increase the number of nurses. The meeting also discussed the modalities for allowing nurses to work in United States.

Health Minister Dr. Azra Pechuho said that Sindh government was working on projects to improve the nurses training as per international standards and increase the number of nurses on an annual basis.

Earlier, New York State Assembly Deputy Speaker Phil Ramos and Assemblyman Alec Brook-Krasny acknowledged the talent in the Pakistani nation. They said that if Pakistani nurses went to US for performing their professional duties it will not only benefit Pakistan but also the US.

The meeting also pointed out obstacles in the process of sending nurses to America.  APPAC Chairman Dr. Ijaz Ahmed and President Imtiaz Rahi said that APPAC has always prioritized that educated, competent and talented Pakistani be provided assistance to move forward.

Heads of Nursing Departments of Aga Khan University Hospital, Dow Medical University and Liaquat Medical University of Jamshoro also exchanged information and views with regard to curriculum of nursing training.
