‘Diversity’ the greatest strength of NYPD: Edward A. Caban

SOA holds 2nd Awards Gala, and it presented the 'Man of the Year' award to Chief Guest Police Commissioner Edward A Caban

New York: Police Commissioner Edward A. Caban has said that the greater strength of the New York Police Department (NYPD) is its diversity.

Addressing the New York Police Department (NYPD) Sikh Officers Association (SOA) 2nd Awards Gala at Leonard’s Palazzo, he said as New York City evolves into a global city, so does the NYPD.

He thanked the SOA for making NYPD a stronger organization by contributing its part.

The greater strength of NYPD is its diversity as officials representing various ethnic communities within the city are part of it, and they have been making efforts to maintain peace and create a sense of security among its dwellers.

He said that New York is a global city and we are fortunate enough to serve here. Asking the SOA members to do more hard work, he said: “You are also the ambassadors of the community and for the community.”

The event began with the American National Anthem.

Serving and retired officers of SOA received awards and certificates of appreciation.

The Executive Board of Sikh Officers Association was introduced in the event that included the president of the board is Sergeant Gurvinder Singh, First Vice President Police Officer Delare Rathour Singh, Second Vice President Sergeant Navdeep Singh while other members include Treasurer Police Officer Anmol Singh, Event Coordinator Police Officer Rohitbir Singh, Corresponding Secretary Police Officer Gurpreet Singh, Sergeant at Arms Satinder Pal Singh and Secretary Sahib Singh

On this occasion, NYPD police band gave a wonderful performance to enthrall the audience.

The president of SOA, Sergeant Gurvinder Singh, presented the introduction and working of the association to the audience. He said that the Sikh community in America has been serving without caste and color for 26 years and this journey will continue with the same spirit.

The Sikh Officers Association presented the Man of the Year award to Chief Guest Police Commissioner Edward A. Caban.

A large number of Sikh community including Assemblywoman Jennifer Rajkumar, Muslim Officers Society President Commanding Officer Adeel Rana participated in the event.

Lifetime Achievement Awards were given to Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny, who participated in the ceremony.

Joseph Kenny congratulated the Sikh Officers Association for organizing the wonderful event. Addressing the participants, Kenny expressed the hope and expectation that more youth from the New York-based Sikh community would join the police force.

New York Police Department Deputy Chief Patricia E. MacDonald was also presented with Lifetime Achievement Awards on this occasion.

Addressing the audience, Patricia E. Macdonald said that NYPD is our identity. The way the youth of the Sikh community are performing their duties is admirable.

Lady Inspector Victoria Perry attended the ceremony dressed in shalwar kameez and was honored with the Woman of the Year award.

Addressing the participants, Victoria thanked to the Sikh officers. there has been a lot of help in improving the relations between the NYPD and the Sikh community.

On this occasion, Police Inspector Ray Jenkins was named Commanding Officer of the Year.

He expressed his gratitude to the members of the association for receiving the award.

On this occasion, the Sikh Officers Association awarded scholarships worth fifteen hundred dollars to two youths from their community to cover their educational expenses.
