APPAC announces assistance to victims of Jaranwala tragedy

The delegation, headed by Deputy Speaker New York State Assembly Phil Ramos, to begin its journey to Pakistan from New York, tomorrow

New York: A 12-member delegation of American-Pakistani Public Affairs Committee (APPAC) led by Deputy Speaker New York State Assembly Phil Ramos will leave for Pakistan on November 2 from U.S.

The purpose of the visit will be a historic first step towards promoting cultural and economic ties and making New York Punjab and Sindh sister city status.

The delegation will begin its journey to Pakistan from New York on November 2.

This was said by APPAC Chairman Dr. Ijaz Ahmad while addressing the press conference held at the residence of Dr. Pervaiz Iqbal.

Dr. Ijaz Ahmad further said that during the visit, the delegation will first reach Lahore where apart from providing relief money to some 200 Christian affected families of the Jaranwala tragedy, meetings will be held with the governor and government officials.

Later, the delegation will visit the medical school in Gujranwala and then will go to the federal Capital – Islamabad and then leave for Karachi at the end of the visit.

While addressing the press conference, Deputy Speaker Phil Ramos said that the purpose of the visit to Pakistan is to promote diplomatic relations and find opportunities for cooperation, which will help the Pakistani American community to reach out to New York and Punjab and Sindh as sister cities.

The visit will also help improve Pakistan-US cultural and economic relations. This historic trip will be a symbol of a new era of understanding and facilitating cooperation between New York and Pakistan.

On this occasion APPAC National Board Members Dr. Iqbal Parvez, Dr. Sadia Tahir, Tariq Khan, Shahid A Syed, Aslam Baig, Muhammad Zulfiqar, Shahid Ali, Rizwan Naeem, Aurangzeb Pirzada, Dr. Faisal Shah, Dr. Muhammad Munir, Asad Ali Chaudhry and Asif Chaudhry were also present.

Earlier, Dr. Pervaiz Iqbal, while delivering the welcome speech, expressed his gratitude to all the participants including Chief Guest Phil Ramos, Consul General of Pakistan in New York, Amir Ahmad Atozai, and said that you people took time out of your busy schedules for this historic press conference.

“I’ve seen very few people who even on a simple request just give a big answer “YES” and one of them is Phil Ramos who graces our events with his presence, time and again. This is commendable for us.”

A question and answer session was also held at the end of the press conference. In which Deputy Speaker Phil Ramos and Dr. Ijaz also responded.
