76th Independence Day: NYC Mayor hoists Pakistan’s flag

Flag hoisting was organized by the NYC Mayor office at the request of APPAC, this year

New York: New York City Mayor Eric Adams hoisted the green crescent flag of Pakistan on the 76th Independence Day of the South Asian Nuclear Country at Bowling Green the bustling business center of the city.

The grand flag hoisting ceremony was held in the Manhattan area which falls under the administrative control of Mayor Eric Adams.

Members of the Pakistani community including children dressed in green crescent flags attended the event in large numbers. The ceremony started with the recitation of the Holy Quran.

Eric Adams, the chief guest of the ceremony while addressing the participants, said that the hoisting of the flags of different countries and nationalities is proof that this city belongs to everyone and we are all like a family.

Masood Ahmed Khan, Pakistan’s ambassador to the US, also participated in the flag hoisting ceremony, along with representatives of prominent organizations of the Pakistani community, and expressed his gratitude to the Mayor of New York for showing love towards Pakistan and ensuring Pakistan’s representation in his cabinet.

On this occasion, American Pakistani Public Affairs Committee (APPAC) Youth Wing Chief Patron Dr. Sadia Tahir, Youth Professional Wing President Abdur Rehman and Junior Wing President Arsal Ejaz said that many generations of Pakistanis living in America have grown up here but they never know their country. Pakistanis are now emerging in the political and administrative sectors here.

It is relevant to mention here that this year’s Pakistan flag hoisting ceremony organized by the Mayor’s office was held under the supervision of Oath Commissioner Asim Rehman at the request of APPAC, while last year the Pakistani flag was hoisted at the same location for the first time at the request of Ali Rashid, President of the American Pakistani Public Advocacy Group (APPAG).

Dr. Parvez Iqbal of APPAC, Asad Chaudhary, Head of COPO Mohammad Rizvi and Pakistani officers of New York Police also participated.

Adeel Rana, President of NYPD’s Muslim Officer Society, also expressed his views. The speakers said that the role of the Pakistani community in the development of this city cannot be forgotten, the youth should actively participate in every field including politics.

Women and children who participated in the ceremony of unfurling the green crescent flag presented a wonderful tableau on patriotic national songs.
