New York: New York has recorded an 18 percent increase in vehicle thefts.

The irony of the fact is, even the vehicles of the New York Police Department (NYPD) are no longer safe.

Data from the New York Police Department shows that 8,627 vehicles have been stolen so far as against 7,319 in the same period in 2022. These figures show an 18 percent increase in vehicle thefts.
According to police sources, a Ford Edge car belonging to the New York Police Department in Queens was targeted by thieves. Which was recovered after several hours of struggle.

The Edge was at least the second police vehicle stolen this year.

Police sources say that the department will announce the implementation of a new plan this week to crackdown on car theft cases.

The project will be piloted in the Bronx and North Queens, where burglaries are the highest.

It has been learned that the New York Police Department intends to add about forty detectives to its auto crime unit.
