Texas: Farzana Raja, the former chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) said that BISP is the most transparent welfare program in Pakistan aimed at poverty eradication which has been acknowledged by international organizations.
This is not a program of any political party but for the welfare of the people of Pakistan.
She was addressing the audience at an event titled “Poverty Eradication and Women’s Rights in Pakistan” organized by South Asia Democracy Watch in Dallas, Texas.
Fayyaz Ahmed, vice president of South Asia Democracy Watch administrated the event, while Amir Makhani, president of South Asia Democracy Watch, welcomed the Chief Guest Farzana Raja.
Speaking at the ceremony, Farzana Raja said that the BISP is a unique program of its kind for the welfare of the poor people in Pakistan, which is unprecedented in the past.
The welfare program has been acknowledged by the IMF and other international financial institutions.
On this occasion, the president and founder of Gender Awareness Project, an international charitable organization for women’s development and their rights, Beverly Hill was also present.
In her opening address, she said that gender bias is a global problem, more than 32 lac women are victims of gender bias in the world every year.
Among them, 38 percent of girls are killed through pre-birth abortions, while 31 percent are underage and widows who die due to lack of adequate food and shelter. 9% of women suffer preventable maternal deaths 13% of girls die before the age of four due to neglect.
The event was attended by prominent personalities belonging to political, social and different sectors of the city.
On this occasion, other members of South Asia Democracy Watch, Dr. Qaiser, Raja Zahid Akhtar Khanzada and Raja Muzaffar were also present.
At the end of the ceremony, the audience asked Farzana Raja questions to which she gave detailed answers and also presented her book to the audience.
