NYC Mayor announces 2 more shelters for immigrants, as the city faces refugee crisis

A total of 170 emergency shelters have been opened in the city, so far

New York: New York Announces City Mayor Eric Adams has announced the opening of two new emergency shelters on the Upper West Side for asylum seekers in Manhattan to cope with the growing refugee crisis in the city.

In response to the escalating migrant crisis in New York, a total of approximately 170 emergency shelters have been opened in the city, including 9 additional large-scale humanitarian aid centers.

As the estimated number of asylum seekers in the city has exceeded at least 74,000 since last spring, the sites will house more than 800 people in 516 rooms.

Mayor Eric Adams says more than 47,000 asylum seekers are currently in the care of city officials, with thousands more arriving each week.

We need a strategy to deal with this problem.

Eric Adams said New York City has set up about 170 emergency shelters to provide temporary shelter, but federal aid and a strategy to move immigrants around the country in necessary.

Without it we are unable to continue to treat asylum seekers with the dignity and compassion they deserve.
