I wanted to be my authentic self in all spheres of my life, Quinn

Tokyo/ Web Desk:

Footballer Quinn became the first openly transgender athlete to win an Olympic medal when Canada won the gold-medal match against Sweden in a penalty shootout.

The 25-year-old  Quinn, who goes by a single name and uses the pronouns “they” and “their”, has a long history with the Canadian team, debuting in 2014 and winning bronze at the 2016 Rio Games, but only came out as transgender last year.

Earlier, she was considered as a woman, but Quinn said they had been concerned about their gender.

“I wanted to be my authentic self in all spheres of my life and one of those is being in a public space,” Quinn said at the time.

“Declaring that I am a transgender was a big decision because the treatment of transgender people in our society is very painful,” says Quinn.

She says that the fight is not over yet, many transgenders are still kept out of the game, they are not allowed to fulfill their dream of playing in the Olympics, the fight will continue until they all come to this field.
