Hijab-wearing American supermodel Halima quits fashion industry

Somali-American model Halima Aden who rose to fame for wearing hijab in the fashion industry has quit her job as it created hurdles in practicing her religious beliefs.

In her Instagram stories, Halima Aden said that the fashion industry was pushing her astray from her religion. One of the recent videos that she published on her social media account shows her mother’s interview with Arab broadcaster, who expresses her desire that may her 23-year-old daughter get a stable job besides fashion industry.   “as it does not conform to our culture and our family members including me do not like her doing fashion shows,” she said.

The American supermodel said that she was to blame only for focusing more about the opportunity than what was actually at stake. She felt an abstract burden always accompanied her as she felt uncomfortable during photo sessions.

“I have finally realized where I went wrong in my personal hijab journey.

“I’m taking a stand for myself but I’m also taking a stand for all the people who lost their soul to fashion. We will never need your representation,” she said.

Aden said it had become difficult for her to keep a balance between work and her identity and she realized it during coronavirus break.
