St. Patrick’s Day parades cancel amid coronavirus fears

New York City still plans to hold a St. Patrick’s Day parade amid the coronavirus outbreak, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Monday as both Boston and Dublin announced they would null their celebrations.

“No, we do not have a plan to cancel the parade at this point,” Hizzoner said at a press conference Monday afternoon.

“[It’s] Going to be day to day, hour to hour, it’s a lot of factors,” he added about the decision to press on with the parade. “Clearly we’re going to watch the progression, how quickly this disease progresses.”

Boston Mayor Martin Walsh said in a statement announcing the city’s parade cancellation that their top priority is “preventing any new cases.”

A parade scheduled for next week in Dublin was also called off because of the virus threat, officials said.
